Miley Cyrus Urging Kids Not To Go On The Internet

Teen starlet Miley Cyrus is taking a public stance against social networking sites, as reported by DNA: Read The World. “I’m urging kids, don’t go on the Internet. It’s not fun; it’s dangerous,” she said. This statement comes after a 48 year-old man from California lured a 13 year-old on a “date” and kidnapped her, all through the technology of Facebook.
We think it’s great when stars speak out for notable causes, and situations like this are no exception. Cyrus deleted her Twitter around this time last summer because of all the drama and time-consumption caused by it, so it would seem as if Miley hated all social networking sites. All of this talk comes with the news of Facebook recently reaching 500 million users. However, if the internet isn’t fun, and Facebook is dangerous, why do you have one yourself? That’s a rhetorical question, of course. ; )

I grew up in the closing era of table-sized TTY computers and the dawn of desktop comptuers, and I didn’t have a personal desktop computer in my home until I was 20, so I don’t intimately know what teens and pre-teens are going through nowadays. I hear so many stories, and I get sad and upset. My experience with computers has largely been a positive one, and I am so angry with what the contemporary experience seems to have become. I desperately want to roll it back to the time of innocence.
I tried appending a response earlier, but it seems to have been removed. I'll try to express myself better. I grew up during the decline of desk-sized TTY computers and the dawn of desktop computers, and I didn't have a personal desktop computer at home until I was 20, which didn't even connect to the Internet, so I am not intimately familiar with what today's teens and pre-teens are subject to. I hear so many stories, and I feel sad and upset. My experience with computers, on the other hand, has been largely positive. I desperately want the online experience to return to that innocence. Why must there be so many spoilers– nay, ruiners– out there?
